Linernotes: ...The LAZYBONES once and for all made it very clear, why at all times, jazz is the nicest way of making music: anything goes. Any sound an instrument can produce, may be used; and any form of music can be fit in. Jazz absorbs all influences like a sponge. What comes out, while squeezing it, will always be a surprise. This quotation from a newspaper review in 1991 gives a precise indication of what this septet is all about. In 1989 Vera Vingerhoeds was assigned to make a composition for the NOS Jazz festival in Amsterdam. This was the reason to start the group LAZYBONES. The band has been playing succesfully all over the country since that time. The repertoire contains a series of special compositions and remarkable arrangements, that show a great versatility in their style. Jazzy, funky and some more free angles of incidence rapidly succeed each other. There are set arrangements, but still, there's a large part of improvisation included. The band, put together as such, assures a solid and strong sound, but subtlety as well. |

The second Scapino production is Nico in which a co-operation between artistic leader/choreographer Ed Wubbe and John Cale honoured the most famous Velvet Underground singer Nico. Cale made a composition in twelve parts alternating with 6 of Nico's beautifull songs from her solo album, such as You forget to answer , Nibelungen and Abschied . Cales composition is a mixture of soft piano, melancholic alt violins and shrieking guitar, music performed by Ice Nine, songs by Frédérique Spigt . The premiere was on the 4th of october 1997. |
